Writing is a solitary business.
Sure, lots of people do it. But when it’s time to put words to page, the writer is often isolated behind four walls.
We talk to ourselves. We get talked to by inspirational quotes we’ve framed, tacked, or taped all around the writing den, not to mention characters we’ve made up.
We stare into space. Drum fingers. Type. Delete. Backspace. Rewrite.
Minutes pass into hours. Hours produce hundreds of words, maybe thousands. Or not.
And we do this, enjoying or enduring it, day in and day out.
Alone.
Yet there are things that bind us. Little constants, partaken of or adhered to by writers, that act as invisible dots. From that keyboard clacking in the cubbyhole of an office, to the one tap-tap-tapping from the lounge chair on the beach.
A sip of something hot and steaming between paragraphs.
A nibble on sweet treats at the close of a scene.
A dip into the pages of someone else’s book while we break from writing our own.
Coffee. Chocolate. Chai.
#anwriting to #amreading.
Word counts. Daily goals. Settings. Arcs. Plot points. Characters. Dark moments. Platform.
These things take the solitary, isolated writer and give her a place among thousands of sisters and brothers who live the writer life.
The write kind of life. And we dare not trade it.

People don’t read much here, music alone piques their interest. But the little that read have this love for reading, and that love, trust me, is worth writing for. The Write Kind of Life, writing is a disease a lot wish they’re infected with but unfortunately, it’s not contagious. U forget your real friends for the imaginary (fiction) ones, so obsessed with them that u talk about them to yourself and anyone around. Writing is not a profession, it is an Art. Writing isn’t just an Art, it’s a blessing from nature. In fact, it is in itself NATURE.

Ah, to have this gift of writing! Something I’ve always wanted, but maybe instead I have the gift of reading. I do enjoy a good read! OH yeah…my favorite things about my community?? Probably the interaction with the others in the office, and with the people who call the office.

My favorite things about my community? There are many. In the time I’ve been writing, I’ve loved connecting with other writers online and in person. Hearing the creative voices God’s given each person. The encouragement I’ve received has been priceless, and the chance to encourage back? A true blessing. It is a solitary life, but it’s also an inter-connected life in some ways. I wouldn’t trade it! 🙂

So many truths here, Tanara! You have captured it so well. For myself, I’m so lucky to have readers on my blog who love the same things that I do, and share the same interests. Many of them, yourself included, feel like friends. That is the real blessing of this kind of community!
